The decline of the church in Glasgow's west end

The well known Oran Mor, opposite the Botanic Gardens at the corner of Byres Road, originally a Free Church of Scotland, built 1862, later a Bible College, is currently a pub and events venue, frequently hosting weddings. The former Landsdowne Church of Scotland, dating from 1862-3, at the corner of North Woodside Road and Great Western Road is also an arts venue where folk can watch plays inside, or sit outside,  drink and talk. Then, further west there is another former church, namely Dowanhill , designed by Wiliam Leiper in 1865, now known as Cottiers, after the designer of its interior, Daniel Cottier, on Highburgh Road, a well known concert venue.

On the south side of Kelvingrove Park. on Bentinck Street, stands the old Finnieston Free Church, built 1879, which is now converted into flats. Take a walk up Hillhead's Great George Street and one finds the old Belmont Parish Church, a competition winner for architect James Miller in 1892, now converted into modern flats. It served as Laurel Bank School for Girls' assembly, games and dining hall for almost 50 years. James Miller, himself, resided at nearby 3 Hillhead Gardens.

The Sturgeon govt. seem intent on transforming Scotland from a nation based on broadly Christian values into a 'progressive' country where Christians, and anyone else, who opposes the LGBT/Transgenger imposition is openly confirmed by the the Scottish government and Police Scotland as being unwelcome in Scotland. How far is it from such an attitude to wanting the exterminate those with 'inconvenient' views ? We are already hearing murmurings about euthanasia. Euthanasia for whom, exactly. Society allows the unborn to be exterminated when considered an inconveniece, so why not exterminate other types of inconvenient creatures, especially those who expose and oppose the 'progressive agenda'. Christians are now being cattacked by the Scottish media and politicians as being hateful for criticising islam, calling it a 'false religion', yet islam is permitted to deny the fundamental truths which Christians hold and treasure, such as the belief that Jesus is the Son of God, the redeemer of mankind and so on. The quran calls for the slaughter of the infidel, which, of course, includes Christians, while the Bible preaches love for one's enemies.
